6th Grade Portrait Features




6th Grade students worked on different facial features before putting together a portrait. They focused on value and how to create value using drawing pencils and different drawing tools. They chose one feature to enlarge, render and paint.

5th Grade Faces


5th Grade students learned about facial features and how to transform a 2D sketch into a 3dDsculpture. After creating a cylindrical vessel, they added their faces and details with clay. Glaze was used to finish the project.

Kindergarten Colors


Kindergarten students broke a heart into geometric shapes using lines. They traced the lines with black glue. They separated the background and foreground by using warm and cool colors.

1st Grade Faces


First Grade students focused on shape and line to create funny faces. They mixed collage with oil pastel in order to assemble shapes and added lines with oil pastels for details.

5th Grade Composition




5th Graders worked on composition when laying out their paintings. They experimented with different painting techniques to create their landscapes.

3rd Grade String



Third grade students looked at different type of design. They practiced drawing these before choosing one to create using string and cardboard.

1st Grade Birds


First grade students ban witegh part of an egg carton for this project. After looking at and discussing art that can be created out of found materials, students painted a beak and eyes onto their portion of an egg carton. Paper scraps, feathers, bottle caps and other materials were used to finish their bird creations.

2nd Grade Van Gogh



Second grade students looked at the textures and brush strokes that defined some of the artworks of Vincent Van Gogh. After discussing still life as a type of art, students created their own vases of flowers. Students focused on making their brush strokes visible, showing form in their vases and sculpting flowers out of paper.

3rd Grade Forms



After studying forms found in structures throughout different styles of architecture, third grade students create the forms out of clay. They assembled their forms to create a castle or a gnome house. After adding texture, the structures were fired and glazed.

6th Grade Mandala



6th grade students looked at Mandalas and the intricate ways in which they are created. Classes discussed different types of design, focusing on radial symmetry. Students used colored pencils to create their own radial designs, making sure to keep the symmetrical.

Textures in Bloom


Students in the Learning Support classroom created textured blooms for Spring! This project was all about exploring painting methods, tools and techniques. Sponges, rollers, legos and other materials were used to apply the paint to paper and paper plates. Students had fun seeing how primary colors mixed to create secondary colors on the pages. These were cut and torn to get the proper shapes needed to form the flowers. Finally, tissue paper strips were applied for the grass to finish up the project.

Kindergarten Weaving


Kindergarten students learned how to weave with paper! After creating their own paper loom, students worked hard to maneuver their colored paper strips through the paper warps. This became the body of the owl. They used oil pastel and watercolor to create resist paintings, which were torn up to become the owl's wings. Finally, students added a detailed face and background elements. This project happened at the same time as our school wide book "Poppy" which featured the owl Mr. Ocax. The students had fun talking about the chapters as we were creating this owl!

2nd Grade Mondrian


2nd grade students learned about Piet Mondrian and the way that his art transformed into geometric abstraction. Students discussed how the simple colors, shapes and lines represent real objects and emotions on the page. Using construction paper, students created their own layouts of geometric shapes. They applied black paint with a piece of card stock to finish the artwork with bold, straight lines.

5th Grade Batik


5th grade students learned about the art of batik. Using this concept, they created their own paper batik using oil pastel and ink. This was used as a background to their positive and negative space mask. Students explored space on a page, creating a mask using both positive and negative space.
