Third Grade - Klimt Trees

Third grade students began this project by looking at the work of Gustav Klimt. Classes discussed how he was considered to be a symbolic painter and looked at the way Klimt used symbols throughout his work.

Using “The Tree of Life” by Klimt as inspiration, students created a whimsical tree on a warm color painted background. Students then developed 4 symbols to represent their favorite season, food, hobby and holiday. The sketches were transferred to metal foil where students embossed and de-bossed details using tooling techniques. The symbols were antiqued using black paint and finally attached to their trees to complete a tree self-portrait.
